The Art of Yoga

"Yoga is the settling of the mind into silence" - Patanjali

What is Yoga?

Yoga, in essence, means "to unify". It is an ancient Indian philosophy and lifestyle which illuminates the path toward union with Cosmic Consciousness. Hatha Yoga, traditionally, encompasses all the physical elements of Yoga, including Asanas (postures) and many other techniques. The primary goal of Yoga is to achieve a state of Divine Union, or Samadhi (Enlightenment), via the dedicated practice of meditation. There are 8 limbs, or branches, to traditional Yoga which assist this process and include Yamas (moral codes), Niyamas (behavioural guidelines), Asanas (postures), Pranayama (breathwork), Dhyana (meditation) and more. The benefits that come from opening oneself to the full practice of Yoga are limitless. In the west, we tend to focus more on the practice of the physical postures (asanas) and miss out on the wealth of healing that exists within the other 7 aspects of the path of Yoga.

The regular practice of Yoga can help us to connect with our radiant inner selves, develop physical strength and flexibility, inspire us to act with integrity, manage our response to stress, grow our vitality and self confidence, and develop a sense of grounded inner Joy.
